The Journey of Schmuel Joshua
The Early Spark
God’s Great Grace appeared early in the life of Schmuel Joshua. At the tender age of ten, he stood behind a pulpit for the first time, delivering a heartfelt sermon to hundreds of attentive congregants during their main service. Yet, the true internal shift occurred two years later in the coastal city of Mombasa, where, at the age of twelve, after reading a powerful Gospel testimony, he experienced a radical conversion that set his soul on fire for the Gospel.
The Encounter at Kisumu Boys
By the age of fifteen, while pursuing his certificate at Kisumu Boys High School, Joshua found himself at a crossroads. Like many teenagers, he wrestled with an identity crisis, which partly stemmed from periods of prior severe child abuse and not knowing his biological father. Unknown to him, this gap and its resultant complications had blocked many things in his life, including the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It was during this time that his high school C.U. patron shared her own story of battling with her own share of an identity crisis during many of their counselling and mentorship sessions. After advising him to fast for a week to genuinely forgive his parents, especially his father, Joshua obeyed and, on the third day, was miraculously baptized in the Holy Spirit under the tree as he prayed!
The Voice in the Ordinary
What began at fifteen was merely the prologue to a life defined by God’s Grace and Mercy. A year after his first major spiritual encounter, a seemingly ordinary moment became a major spiritual turning point. Following a domestic disagreement with his mother, which led to her berating him endlessly for countless sins before the bemused neighbors, Joshua heard the distinct voice of the Holy Spirit for the first time. The Spirit gave him a choice: yield to pride and argue, or accept his many mistakes, plead guilty, and do the unthinkable.
Choosing the path of self-effacement, he listed all of the sins that he was accused of (plus many others that came into his mind), categorized them into particular sections, and embarked on a journey of deep repentance, prayer, and fasting to tackle them individually. This journey resulted in a heavenly encounter that consequently unleashed an undisputable display of God’s presence and power, for as he preached the Word, the Spirit moved with raw, unfiltered power and authority. God’s Grace upon his life soon permeated beyond the walls of the school’s Christian Union and into the local church, where he served diligently as a leader of the prayer department and the youth ministry. During this season, he became a regularly sought-after guest at house fellowships and local assemblies, as thirsty souls sought the voice of God flowing through him. As he continued to walk in this unusual favor and authority in that season, unknown to him – his ministry had, albeit informally, begun!
The Great Surrender
At the age of nineteen, while serving as an untrained teacher, the strength of his conviction was put to the ultimate test. Facing the prestigious opportunity to pursue a degree in the United Kingdom, Joshua chose instead the path of absolute obedience. He forfeited the academic journey abroad to answer the call to pastoral and missionary work, cofounding his first church in Mombasa, which he later handed over to a coworker as he relocated to Nairobi.
While in Nairobi, he continued to serve for a time as an untrained teacher in various schools, while diligently serving under the Apostolic ministry of Global Gospel Mission. After sitting under a few other choice servants of God from whom he learnt a lot, he was finally released to begin his own ministry, which was eventually registered in 2012 before changing its name in 2021. This was the beginning of JEMIC and the Glory Embassy.
As the ministry flourished over the ensuing years, a global voice to the nations emerged. Joshua transitioned from local pulpits to national and international platforms. Today, he travels extensively, carrying the heart of Jesus to the regional nations of Uganda, DRC, and Tanzania, and across the major South African cities of Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and Pretoria, serving as an international minister for his generation.
Higher Education - Receiving Isaac Back to Life!
Even though he had initially forfeited his academic ambitions to serve the Gospel totally, the Lord finally saw it fit to release him back into the classroom. Subsequently, Joshua finally joined PAC University, where he emerged at the top of his class with the highest honors and was awarded for this feat. He continues to further his career as a Transformational Leader, having done over 15 manuscripts and numerous other works.
